Botox unit calculator
Pick the areas you’re thinking about and see the unit range typically used for each — so you know what to expect before you sit down with an injector.
Which areas are you considering?
Choose as many as you like. Areas marked per side are counted for both sides.
Botox units by area
Ranges commonly used in practice. Where a dose is FDA-labelled for that area, it’s noted.
| Area | Typical units | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Upper face | ||
| Frown lines (the “11s”) | 15–25 | The FDA-labelled dose for this area is 20 units. |
| Forehead lines | 8–20 | Usually treated together with the frown lines — treating the forehead alone can drop the brow. |
| Crow's feet | 8–15per side | Dosed per side. The FDA-labelled dose is 12 units per side. |
| Brow lift | 2–5per side | — |
| Bunny lines | 2–4per side | — |
| Lower face | ||
| Lip flip | 4–6 | — |
| Gummy smile | 2–4 | — |
| Downturned mouth corners | 2–4per side | — |
| Chin dimpling | 4–8 | — |
| Jaw and neck | ||
| Jaw slimming / clenching | 20–30per side | Dosed per side, and the largest cosmetic area by unit count. |
| Neck bands | 20–50 | — |
| Medical | ||
| Excessive underarm sweating | 50–100 | The FDA-labelled dose is 50 units per underarm. Often covered by insurance when medically indicated. |
Units aren’t the same between products
Units are not interchangeable between products. These figures are Botox and Xeomin units; Dysport is dosed differently, at roughly two and a half to three times the number of units for an equivalent effect. If you are quoted a unit count, always ask which product it refers to.
Common questions
- How many units of Botox do I need for my forehead?
- Forehead lines are typically treated with somewhere between 8 and 20 units, and the frown lines between the brows with 15 to 25 units. In practice the two are almost always treated together, because relaxing the forehead on its own can leave the brow feeling heavy. Your injector decides the actual dose based on how strong your muscles are and the result you want.
- How many units are in a full face of Botox?
- It depends entirely on which areas are treated. Upper face alone — frown lines, forehead and crow's feet — commonly comes to around 45 to 75 units. Adding jaw slimming can add another 40 to 60 on its own, because the masseter is a large muscle treated on both sides.
- Is a Botox unit the same as a Dysport unit?
- No. Botox and Xeomin units are broadly comparable, but Dysport is dosed differently — roughly two and a half to three times as many units for an equivalent effect. A quote of 60 Dysport units is not three times as much product as 20 Botox units. Always ask which product a unit count refers to.
- Does more units mean a better result?
- No. Dosing too high is what produces a frozen or heavy look, and it can drop the brow. The aim is the smallest dose that achieves the result you want, which is why experienced injectors often start conservatively and adjust at a two-week review.
- How long does Botox last?
- Most people see three to four months from a cosmetic treatment. Larger muscles like the masseter often last longer, and results tend to become more durable after several consistent treatments. Individual variation is wide.
- Can this tool tell me my dose?
- No, and it deliberately doesn't try. It shows the ranges commonly used for each area so you know roughly what to expect and can ask better questions. Botulinum toxin is a prescription medicine, and the dose for any individual is a clinical decision made in person.
